DISCUSSION 2 by Cham Yang Hui

From my personal experiences and research, media stereotypes that i have seen on TV, magazines and in the movies, Asians are always smaller size compare to Caucasian and African. Besides that, Asians are mostly small eyes and Chinese knows kung fu just like because of Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.

For an example, "Rush Hour" which act by Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker and Ken Leung and of course the other actors.. From that movie, we can see that Asians are known kung fu and they don't know how to dance. At first Chris Tucker thought Jackie Chan doesn't understand English in that movie and also he thought Asians are nerd but actually we aren't.

  1. Yes I agree! People always assume that we Asian, especially Chinese, already possess the skill of Kung Fu by birth just because Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan got really famous in the media. Also, people should understand that different race of people tend to be in different sizes compared to the others is because their way of lives is different and should accept them for who they are and not mock them.

  2. Ya!! I can say that majority of Chinese in this world don't know skills of Kung Fu including me and mostly of my friends and family. But I believe that there are many peoples in this world that thought all Chinese know Kung Fu just because of misconception of MEDIA.

  3. I'm agreed with you! We also been giving the stereotypes about Asians are mostly small eyes, Chinese knows kung fu & can't dance, Islam are terrorist, Irish are alcoholics and so on. Media stereotypes create a lots of basic impression toward some certain thing.
